On, Monday, December 16, 2024, Mr. Ronnie Hewitt, the current 2023-2024 Thomasville City Schools’
Principal of the Year was surprised by his students and staff as he was honored officially as the 2025
Burroughs Wellcome Fund Piedmont-Triad Region Principal of the Year by Beckie Spears, the 2024
North Carolina Principal of the Year. He will now compete with principals from seven other regions
for North Carolina Principal of the Year.
During his 17 years in Thomasville City Schools, including the last three years leading Liberty Drive
Elementary School, Mr. Hewitt has been a stellar example of building a school culture of excellence.
Under Hewitt’s leadership, Liberty Drive Elementary School has made significant strides in student
achievement, earning the school status of Exceeding Growth for the past school year and in the top
20% of growth in the state. Under his leadership, students and staff continue to meet and exceed the
goals they set together as they strive to elevate minds and ignite excellence.
